Steve Kreta has been at The California Maritime Academy for over 25 years. As a proud graduate of the class of 1979, he sailed in the United State Merchant Marine for a number of years before returning to San Jose State University for graduate study and to Cal Maritime as a faculty member teaching an array of engineering and technology courses. He has held a number of positions on campus and now serves as Academic Dean.

As Academic Dean, Steve works with Department Chairs and all faculty on curriculum issues, program development and review, and instructional facilities. Steve has been instrumental in leading the planning, remodeling, and construction of virtually all current instructional facilities. He has also ensured that all classrooms and labs have up to date instructional technologies.

Steve Kreta received a B.S. degree in Marine Engineering Technology from the California Maritime Academy and a M.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from San Jose State University. Along with being a Professional Mechanical Engineer, State of California, he is also a Chief Engineer, US Coast Guard Unlimited Steam, Diesel and Gas Turbine and a Certified Plant Engineer.
