Minor in Global Studies and Maritime Affairs

The minor in Global Studies and Maritime Affairs is designed to give students an in-depth overview of issues relating to global maritime policy. Students are required to take nine units of courses in history, ocean issues, and theories related to the political and/or economic foundations of global relations. Students then specialize by taking six units of electives in areas of global maritime policy of specific interest to them.

GMA 105 Ocean Politics
HIS 300 Maritime History
GMA 200 Economics of Globalization
– or –
GMA 100 Introduction to International Relations

At least six units of the following:

Any GMA-designated course
BUS 110 International Law
ECO 200 Economic Geography
ECO 300 Economics of Transportation
NAU 103 Introduction to Marine Transportation
SOC 215 International Studies
TRA 305 Maritime Policy Seminar

Independent studies may be taken outside of Global Studies and Maritime Affairs. All independent studies require advance approval of the GSMA program director to count toward the minor.
