Intramurals and Recreation
Intramural and recreational programs
have traditionally been an important
aspect of life at Cal Maritime.
Activities include competition between
divisions in such team sports as flag
football, basketball, indoor soccer,
volleyball, and softball. Individual
tournaments are held in a variety of
sports, such as table tennis, weight
lifting, fun runs, and basketball
shoot-offs.
On-campus facilities include playing
fields, an indoor 25-meter swimming
pool, a gymnasium for basketball, indoor
soccer, and volleyball, an Olympic free
weight room, two machine weight rooms,
and a multi purpose room for aerobics
and martial arts.
During the annual summer training
cruises aboard the Training Ship GOLDEN
BEAR, students and staff have access to
a well-equipped, state-of-the-art
exercise and weight room facility. The
weight room facility comes well equipped
with a variety of rowing machines,
stationary bicycles, mirrors, and a
television monitor.
The Athletic Department also operates a
checkout service that gives students
access to a wide range of athletic
equipment.
The indoor heated pool is available to
students several hours a week with a
certified lifeguard on duty. The free
weight room is also available several
hours a week with a gym supervisor
present. Club Sports
The Director of Intramurals and
Recreation also has the responsibility
for clubs sponsored by the Associated
Student Body. These sports include
baseball, cycling, and men’s volleyball.
For more information on any of the
programs listed above, or to get a
schedule of the pool and weight room
hours, please contact the Patrick
Hollister, the Director of Intramurals
and Recreation.
