CSU Systemwide

Although the near 40,000 CSU first-time freshmen have taken the required college-preparatory courses and have an average B grade point average, over 60% require remediation in Math and/or English.

36.7% of the first-time freshmen needed remediation in Mathematics.

The average grade point average for the students that needed remediation in Mathematics was 3.18.

48.2% of the first-time freshmen needed remediation in English. (Note: There were students that needed remediation in both subjects)

The average grade point average for the students that needed remediation in English was 3.22.

 

The Cal Maritime Academy

The Cal Maritime Academy is a much smaller and more specialized school, which may cause for a difference in statistics.

The number of incoming first-time freshmen was 141 in a school of approximately 650.

21.3% of the first-time freshmen needed remediation in Mathematics.

The grade point average for the students that needed remediation in Mathematics was 3.0

31.2% of the first-time freshmen needed remediation in English.

The average grade point average for the students that needed remediation in English was 3.05
