Webex at Cal Maritime

Webex is a Web Conferencing and Collaboration tool that allows users to view , control and share computer desktops remotely. If you have ever participated in "webinar" or remote conference call, you have probably use the Webex software. Cal Maritime has purchased 25 licenses of Webex and we even have our own Webex site.

With Webex you can:

• Host meetings remotely to an unlimited number of users
• Instantly share your computer screen with someone in another office, or other location
• Capture and record lectures or office hours and make them available for student review later on in WebCT or on the Cal Maritime Webex site.

Meeting Center:

• The meat and potatoes of Webex.You can Schedule meetings, share screens, white board etc.

Training Center:

• An extension of Meeting Center. More assessment tools.

Support Center:

• Good for quick screen sharing session between you the host and one other computer

Getting Started

1. First request a host account by click the Request Host Account Link in the left hand corner of the Webex screen.You can also contact Greg Crum or Donna Lichty . You will receive and email confirmation along with your login information .
   
   
2. Once you Login to the site it is best to watch one of the brief tutorials. These are Located by selecting the Training link in the Support menu .
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
3. Select the Webex University icon to be taken to the list of self-paced tutorials. We recommend you start with one of these below.

   

   Getting Started with Meeting Center:
   This course is a fast-paced, interactive training session designed to give you concrete ideas on how to use Meeting Center to make your workday easier and more productive, with just enough feature training to get you started!

   Getting Started with Training Center:
   This class is designed to help new hosts and site administrators take their first step to becoming proficient with the Training Center service. Participants will compare the scheduling methods (online vs. downloadable applications) and decide which one would work best for their work environment. In addition, participants are introduced to basic presentation features and site administration tasks, and will receive advice on what steps to take next.

Sharing a document: Users can present Word, PDF, Excel, PowerPoint or any other document with the Webex presentation session. The document can be marked up using the annotation tools.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sharing Applications: Presenters can share an entire application. The application is opened up in a separate window outside the Webex presentation frame and gives the presenter full functionality of the application.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The White Board : Webex offers a whiteboard where presenters and quickly make sketches and write text.
