Stephen "Steve" Frazier assumed duties as the CIO of the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo, California in July, 2006.   During the past twenty-five years, he has served in academic computing positions at colleges and universities in five states.  He also taught courses either as a full-time or a part-time instructor and served as a programmer for administrative processes and academic projects as well as a manager of research at a business college.  Prior to his appointment at Cal Maritime, Steve provided leadership for the award-winning Center for Instructional Technology at Eastern Connecticut State University.

Now reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Administration, Mr. Frazier provides leadership, planning, and management for all aspects of information technology at Cal Maritime including academic and administrative computing, telecommunications, data and voice networking, user support services, and technical aspects of distance and distributive education.  He also serves on a number of university-wide committees including the President’s Advisory Board, WASC Steering Committee, IT Strategic Planning, Diversity Resource Council, Disaster Recovery Planning and Chargeback and sits on the system-wide Information Technology Advisory Committee (ITAC) of the California State University.  

Mr. Frazier was named as "Professional of the Year Representing IT Services in Higher Education for 2007-08" by the Cambridge Who's Who.  He was originally admitted to the Manchester Who's Who (now Cambridge) registry in January, 2006).  He has 10 years of Unix system administrative experience.

Jannette Corpus serves as the Director of IT and the Information Security Officer for the campus.  She oversees the Peoplesoft staff, network operations and help desk. 

She is a graduate of San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Information and Computing Systems, has twenty-two years of Information Technology experience.  Her technical experience includes databases (Access, SQL Server, Oracle, DB2), operating systems (Windows and UNIX) and the COBOL, Visual Basic, PeopleTools languages. 

As a Computer Programmer Analyst for the IRS for thirteen years, she was responsible for the design, development, and implementation for all the local programs.  She developed an Administrative System that was implemented nationwide, which involved traveling to different regions of the United States to train personnel and implement the program.

While serving as a Senior Software Engineer for PeopleSoft for six years, she managed their Customer1 Call Center Development Team.  This involved working with internal customers to design, develop, code, implement and test internal and customer facing applications.  She coordinated with business owners, management and the performance, integration and conversion teams.  She was involved in the conversion of Vantive, J.D. Edwards and the 8.4 PeopleSoft upgrade.

In her current position as the Director of Information Technology, Ms. Corpus is responsible for the day-to-day operations for the Common Management Systems (PeopleSoft), Network, HelpDesk and Information Security for Cal Maritime.  Reporting directly to the CIO, she oversees major projects including the implementation of new software (WebCT, Resources25, CashNet, Automate!Test and Altiris), CSU initiatives which includes the Data Center transition, PeopleSoft upgrades and the Integrated Terminal Resources Project (ITRP).  She also serves as the Information Security Officer to ensure all security measures are in place.  She is responsible for Security Policies, Asset Management, Physical and Environmental Security, Communications and Operations, Access Control, Information System Acquisition, Development and Maintenance, Incident Management, Business Continuity Management and Compliance.

Network and Data Center Operations Supervisor

Walter Abarca provides network support, manages the firewalls, spam filter, oversees the HelpDesk operation and CSU/Cal Maritmie special projects (ITRP, Wirelss, Core Switches, Stat Seeker, etc.).

Mr. Abarca graduated from Heald Institute of Technology with an Associate of Applied Science in Network Technology and Associate of Applied Science in Electronics Technology (1998).  As the Network and Data Center Operations Supervisor at Cal Maritime, Mr. Abarca oversees two other full time positions in the Help Desk.  His primary duties include: ensuring systems connectivity and providing hardware and software support for the institution. He is responsible for configuring and installing Cisco switches, builds wireless connections and administers servers including DNS, DHCP and WINS. He maintains LAN and WAN networks and computer laboratory equipment using Windows and Unix environments. He implemented backup procedures, web server updates and installed new hardware and software. He collaborates with the ISO to insure network security, firewall protocols and password protections. He manages terminal storage capacity and email quota policies. He is responsible for training staff and end-users and providing technology guidance to students.

He is a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP).  He is experienced with Windows 2000, NT 2003 and NT 4.  His experience with network tools includes DNS, DHCP, WINS, Exchange Server, Active Directory, ISDN, SNMP, Cisco Catalyst 1900, 2500, 2900, 3500 and 4006 series switches, and Cisco Aironet 350 series wireless bridges.  Applications that he is experienced with include Microsoft Office 97/200/XP (Word, Outlook, Excel), Visio, 3270 emulator, CWS/CMS application, Ghost Software 2000, Live Motion, Macromedia Flash, Front Page 98/2000, Norton Antivirus 2000, Adobe Photoshop 5.5/6.0, Backup Exec 6.1 and ARC server.

Mr. Abarca’s professional development includes Unix Essentials & Solaris 9 / Intermediate Systems Administration, Implementing MS Windows 2000 / Supporting MS Windows 2000 Professional & Server, Cisco Internetworking Troubleshooting / Cisco Network Devices / Building Scalable Cisco Networks, and Create & Manage Web Server using IIS.

Mr. Abarca has served in network support positions at California Maritime Academy from 2006 to the present and from 2000–2004.  From 1999-2000, he worked as a Specialist/Webmaster for the University.  He also worked as a Field Support Center Analyst for Sacramento County, Sacramento, CA from 2005–2006, and a Network Technician for ThinRoute Technologies, Auburn, CA from 2004–2005.

Programmer/Analyst

Dr. Axsom provides projecct leadership for major upgrades of Peoplesoft modules.  She provides direct support for the Peoplesoft HR and SA modules.  In addition, she (along with Greg Crum and Steve Frazier) provide limited Macintosh support for faculty and administrators.

Dr. Axsom graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1997 with a PhD in Literature.  She has worked in The California State University system since August 1977, minus the five years she spent at Notre Dame.  Most of her experience has been with the Office of Admissions and Records, although for the last ten years she was deeply involved in the Common Management System project to implement PeopleSoft as the administrative software for the CSU.   To that end she liaised with the California State University Common Management System Baseline team and counterparts on other CSU campuses, providing analysis of and recommendations for modifications.  In the past she developed curriculum for training in navigation and functions for PeopleSoft end users, responded to end users' questions, troubleshooting their problems and offering solutions and recommendations.  She is often asked to provide advice on business process decisions... and she also test fixes, patches, releases, and bundles and approve for application to the live production database, coordinating the testing process with subject matter experts and the other functional leads.

Dr. Axsom is most familiar with PeopleSoft administrative software, including PeopleSoft Query.  She is also comfortable using BrioQuery.  She worked as webmaster for the Office of Admissions and Records at Sonoma State University and therefore she is also familiar with HTML, Dreamweaver, Captivate, FrontPage, and BBEdit, as well as SnagIt, PhotoShop, and PageMaker.  She is equally at home with Apple or Windows operating systems and provides limited support for Apple computers along with Greg Crum and Steve Frazier.

 

Donna Lichty

Since 1999, Donna Lichty has managed the Telecommunications needs of the California Maritime Academy.  Her responsibilities include two Fujitsu PBXs, voicemail, cell phones, pagers, 911 software program and telephone billing for the entire campus and the Training Ship Golden Bear.  She supports Cal Maritime’s Voice over IP pilot project which went live during the summer of 2008 in the new Bridge Simulator Center.

Ms. Lichty has also taken on additional responsibilities related to Cal Maritime’s website a.  She also manages the Google Mini search appliance for the campus website and the event calendar (Resource 25).

Coordinator of Instructional Technology/Web Development

In his position as the current Coordinator of Instructional and Academic Web Development, Mr. Crum draws on his wide range of experience and skills to help CMA faculty combine technology and sound pedagogical practices to achieve positive learning outcomes. He provides support for WebCT and also helps with Cal Maritime's website development, Accessible Technology initiatives and CSU/Cal Maritime's eAdvocacy project.  In addition, he (along with Margo Axsom and Steve Frazier) provide limited Macintosh support for faculty and administrators.

Greg Crum graduated from the University of California Davis in 1992 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he worked in the Commercial HVAC industry as an associate project manager and engineer for 4 years before taking a position at Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC). As a Technical Support Engineer at PTC, Mr. Crum developed his keen analytical skills and his ability to communicate and simplify complex ideas through the support of Pro/Engineer, the industry-leading computer-based solid modeling tool.

After working in technical support for a number of years, in 2002 he went back to school to pursue a master’s degree in Educational Technology. After graduating in 2003 he accepted a position as the Coordinator of Instructional Technology at Corpus Christi, a Kindergarten through 8th Grade school in Oakland, California. At Corpus Christi he was responsible for staff Technology professional development, maintaining the school’s computer lab and network as well as providing weekly technology classes to school’s 250 students.

Equipment Systems Specialist

Mr. Morgan provides support for Help Desk operations and assistance with server administration .  He also provides IT support during cruise onboard the Training Ship Golden Bear each summer.

Mr. Morgan’s education includes an ASEE in 1976, a BSBA with an IT Concentration from Colorado Technical University (Online, Summa Cum Laude) in 2006, Microsoft Windows 2000 MCSE in 2003, and A+ certification in 2002.

Since the early 1970s, he has worked as an assembler, technician, Engineering Assistant and in various support positions. He has experience with mini-computers, PCs, Novell and Windows Network administration.  His formal Microsoft training followed a layoff from NEC Electronics where he repaired and maintained semi-conductor production equipment.  He went to school for 18 months under a VA Vocational Rehabilitation program where he obtained his MCSE.  He is currently studying to upgrade his MCSE to Server 2003.

Mr. Webb provides support for Help Desk operations and the computer labs.  He also provides IT support during cruise onboard the Training Ship Golden Bear each summer.

Mr. Webb's education includes an Associates degree in Computer Technology from Heald College, Concord, CA (1999).  During the past two years at Cal Maritime, he has served as an Equipment Support Specialist at Cal Maritime and provided support to the Help Desk and IT support onboard the Golden Bear during the past two cruises.  In addition, he manages the images for the computer labs on campus and provides acquisition consultation.

Prior to his employment in Cal Maritime in October 2005, he worked as an Assistant to Network Analyst at Sequoia Equities in Walnut Creek, CA (2/01/2001 –  8/30/2004) and a Network Support Technician – Alliance Inc. – Phoenix, AZ (9/01/2004 – 10/01/2005).  A+ Certified, Mr. Webb is skilled at PC hardware, printers, and peripherals, all Microsoft Windows operating systems and Exchange Server 2007.

Mr. Wilfong provides support for Help Desk operations and assistance with Server and Network administration.  He also provided IT support during the 2008 cruise (both first and second cruises) onboard the Training Ship Golden Bear.  Mr. Wilfong comes to us from a brief internship at SSU (Sonoma State University).
