Core Switch Upgrades

Accomplished Projects 2007-08

Information Technology Department

The core switches were upgraded from Supervisor 620 to 720 in January, 2008 as part of the CSU ITRP-2.  CSU funded three of our four supervisors in the core switches.  The fourth supervisor, required for failover, was purchased by Cal Maritime’s IT Department to insure that network services are not interrupted.

A supervisor acts as a router on our network to route traffic between the virtual local area networks (VLANs).  VLANs insure that business processes have adequate bandwidth.  They also improve security by separating network traffic between the labs, faculty/staff and students.
