Keynote Speaker

Navy Vice Admiral John Ryan (Ret.), Chancellor of the State University of New York (SUNY)

will keynote the Conference.  The SUNY system consists of 64 campuses, over 80,000 faculty and staff and more than 413,000 students.  Ryan previously served as President of SUNY Maritime, where he nearly doubled enrollment in just three years.  We look forward to some thought-provoking perspectives on maritime education and the unique resources this field offers educators and the challenges it presents.

Conference Presentations Selected

The call for entries has generated over four-dozen proposals for presentations and seminars from scholars throughout the United States as well as Russia, Sweden, Turkey, Finland, Russia, Australia and Canada.  Among the subject areas which will be part of the conference proceedings:

• Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Practice in the Maritime Environment – Implications for Educators
• Developing Information Literacy for the Maritime Curriculum
• The Challenges of Integrating ABET EAC and SCTW Requirements in a Mechanical Engineering Program
• Changing the Organizational Culture for the Future Maritime Educator
• The Faculty Learning Community in Maritime Teaching
