The Leadership Gold
Medal Award Program –
Coaching Program
The
Coaching Program is one of
three components of the
Leadership Gold Medal Award
program. The Coaching program is designed
to link cadets with
experienced professionals to
enhance their career and
personal development through
the completion of the
Leadership Gold Medal Award
Program. Participation in
this program will be a
contributing factor
affecting a cadet’s success,
satisfaction and retention
at Cal Maritime.
Additionally, the Coaching
Program will provide the
opportunity for coaches to
share experiences with and
aid the personal and
professional growth of the
cadet.

Coaches
By
participating in the
Coaching Program, cadets
should expect a high degree
of personal and professional
success and a feeling of
inclusion in the
organization. The cadets
will also have someone to
talk with who can provide a
listening ear and a
different perspective and be
provided with valuable
direction and
clarification.
Additionally, cadets will be
provided with assistance in
figuring out what they need
to do to fill in the gaps
between where they are now
and where they want to be in
the future.
The cadet’s
responsibilities are:
-
willingness
to learn;
-
ability
to accept constructive
feedback;
-
willingness
to “stretch” to try new
things and take risks; and
-
ability
to identify short-term and
long-range goals and accept
that those goals may change.

with the Leadership Gold
Medal Award Program;
-

skills of listening
counseling, career advising,
and goal setting; and
-

as a “referral agent” on
issues that require more
information than you have
The
responsibilities of the
partnership between the
cadet and the coach are:
-
Plan
to commit to a one-year
partnership to develop trust
and rapport;
