Commander Jennifer L. Yount is
presently the Director, Leadership Development and Commandant
of Cadets at The California Maritime
Academy, a campus of California State
University. Before accepting her
current position, she was an Assistant
Professor in the Marine Transportation
Department. She is a licensed
facilitator for FranklinCovey’s “The 7
Habits of Highly Effective People®”.
She holds a current license of Master
of Steam or Motor Vessels of Any Gross
Tons Upon Oceans. As a member of the
faculty, she developed The California
Maritime Academy Pre-Commissioning Pilot
Program for the U.S. Coast Guard; was
the Secretary for the Academic Senate’s
Executive Committee; Chaired the
Discipline Review and Investigating
Committee; and was the Head Coach of the
Women’s Club Basketball Team. She
retired in 2001 from Active Duty as a
Commander (O-5) in the U. S. Coast Guard
after serving honorably for over 20
years. While in the Coast Guard, she
completed over eight years of sea duty
culminating in her assignment as
Commanding Officer, USCGC DAUNTLESS.
She also spent over four years in human
resource management and policy positions
at the Coast Guard Headquarters in
Washington, D.C. Additionally,
Commander Yount spent almost eight years
in operational resource management,
oversight, planning, and coordination
positions in response to significant
national and international issues.
Commander Yount graduated from the Coast Guard
Academy, New London, Connecticut with a
Bachelor of Science in Marine Science.
She earned a Masters of Business
Administration degree from Barry
University of Miami, Florida.
Commander Yount is the recipient of the Coast
Guard Meritorious Service Medal, Coast
Guard Commendation Medal with
Operational Distinguishing Device (four
awards); the Coast Guard Achievement
Medal; and the Commandant’s Letter of
Commendation with Operational
Distinguishing Device (two awards).
Commander Yount lives in Petaluma, California
and is the daughter of Frank and Violet
Yount of Spartanburg, South Carolina and
the sister of Bradley Yount of Andover,
Massachusetts. |
