Department of Leadership Development
The Department of Leadership Development is
focused in two primary areas –
leadership development program implementation and the Corps of
Cadets oversight.
The Leadership Development Program is designed
to provide formal and informal
instruction and training opportunities
for all cadets. The program
consists of two major components, the
Leadership Certification Program and
Co-Curricular Leadership Opportunities.
The
Leadership Certification Program
consists of:
Current
Co-Curricular Leadership Opportunities
include:

The Program is designed to
meet the Cadet Leadership Development
Vision Statement while emphasizing the
promotion of Cal Maritime’s Core Values.
Additionally, the Program will
emphasize highly desired personal
attributes and skills.
The Corps of Cadets oversight includes advising
the senior Corps officers on the
management of the Corps of Cadets, watch
standing on the campus, including the
Training Ship GOLDEN BEAR, and the
conduct system. The Corps of Cadets has
often been referred to as “a leadership
laboratory” and as such cadets should
expect evaluation and assessment of
their leadership skills as they progress
through their four years at Cal
Maritime.
Leadership
is the ability regardless of position in
an organization to:
-
Work within a team to develop positive vision,
direction, and results;
-
Implement policies and receive unconditional support
during critical circumstances;
-
Balance organizational and personal requirements,
including the recognition and
support of one's team members;
-
Identify and adapt to change and lead in view of those
changes; and
-
Obtain the highest performance from
every member.
Leadership development
is a formalized, multi-faceted approach,
including classroom curriculum, training
and extracurricular programs, and
learning opportunities, ensuring all
cadets are trained and evaluated in
leadership capabilities to be the
"highest quality" professionals.
