Nautical Engineering Provides
$50,000 Gift to Cal Maritime
Nautical Engineering, Inc. and its
owner and chief executive officer,
Manuel Esteves, have once again shown
their generosity to Cal Maritime and its
students, in the amount of a recent
$50,000 unrestricted gift. The donation
represents an important lead gift in
support of Cal Maritime as it celebrates
its 75th anniversary.
Nautical Engineering and Manuel Esteves
have become cornerstones of Cal
Maritime’s philanthropic endeavors to
provide scholarship support to worthy
students most in need of financial
support. Nautical Engineering and the
Esteves family have donated more than
$120,000 to Cal Maritime over the past
five years, making them one of the
institution’s most important patrons.
“We are grateful for the ongoing support
that Nautical Engineering and Manuel
Esteves have given to Cal Maritime and
its students,” said Bill Eisenhardt,
president of Cal Maritime. “His fondness
for and commitment to our students is
apparent to anyone who meets him. He is
indeed a member of the Cal Maritime
family.”
Esteves is known for his close rapport
with students and he often finds ways to
get to know them. For example, last
year, he rode a leg of the cruise on the
Training Ship GOLDEN BEAR.
"As a Spanish Naval Academy graduate, I
believe very strongly in maritime
education,” said Esteves. “The U.S.
Maritime Industry has been very good to
me, giving me opportunities, a career
and ultimately a life that I am very
proud of. Contributing to Cal Maritime
and associating with my good friends in
the faculty and student body is my way
of giving something back. I am hopefully
doing my part helping maintain those
opportunities that I had as a young
cadet."
Well known along the waterfront, Esteves
started his company in 1966 as Nautical
Electric and re-launched it as Nautical
Engineering in 1994. Nautical
Engineering is known for its
full-fledged ship repair capabilities
and has worked extensively on Cal
Maritime’s Training Ship GOLDEN BEAR
over the past seven years, including
converting it from a Navy surveillance
vessel to a training ship.
Thank you Nautical Engineering and
Manuel Esteves for your commitment to
Cal Maritime and its students.
