The morning greeted us  with squalls that are typical in the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone. The heavy  downpours showed up on our 3cm. radar, effectively blocking any indication of  nearby ships.

Days 6 & 7

Daily Log:

Weekend at  sea

The weekend addition of virtual cruise covers from Friday  night until Monday morning.  A lot of activities took place over the weekend  while heading south.  The students in deck training learned to use the  mechanical advantage of blocks and tackles to lift over 400 lbs with only a  little over 10 lbs of force.   Our Man Overboard crew practiced launching  and recovering the rescue boat so that they will be prepared should we have  a real need for a rescue.

The  weather has turned very tropical and humid.  Although we are still 6 degrees  above the equator, the winds have begun to swing to the south.  The sky  looks very much like the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone with large  thunderclouds in the morning and late afternoon with occasional squalls or  showers.  The birds and sea life have also changed.  We are seeing tropical  birds and flying fish as well as many tuna jumping.

 Observation:

Another  beautiful Tahitian sunset kept the mood light during an ASCMA (Associated  Students) Dance on the stern of the Golden Bear.
