Captain's Log
05/26/2004
Over the night, we made our way to
Okinawa, crossing the axis of the Japan Stream, a current very
similar to the Gulf Stream of the USA. By early morning,
Okinawa Jima was visible on our Port bow.
On the previous day, we had made
arrangements, through our agent and the U. S. Navy, MSC
office, to anchor off the port and send the doctor and patient
in for an examination by the U.S. Navy clinic’s
Ophthalmologist. We had arranged for a 0830 pick up at the
navy small boat landing in the military port in Naha.
By 0800, we were ready to launch the
emergency boat with the crew and our doctor and patient. By
0815 they were underway, and after a brief processing by Japan
Immigrations they were off with the agent to the clinic.
By Noon, the exam and lab work were
complete and the needed medication was in hand. The shore
party was in route back to the immigrations office in Naha and
then to the navy landing, however, the Japanese Immigration
office was closed until 1300 so there was a one-hour delay.
AT 1400 the boat was in route to the ship
and we began hoisting the anchor. We were soon underway for
our next stop at Mokpo Korea.
