Mission Statement

The Nikki Hospice Foundation for Pets, the first official, non-profit organization of its kind in the nation, has been founded in response to a need which is becoming ever more prominent in our society. Its express purpose is to encourage the provision of hospice care for dying pets, so that pet owners who do not wish to choose euthanasia when their animals are about to depart this life or who wish to postpone it can care for them in the home environment--under veterinary supervision and with adequate pain management and/or symptom control. Ultimately, for those who see a natural death as the best and most acceptable end for their pets, and who wish to strengthen the human-companion animal bond in their pets' hour of greatest need, hospice care is the answer.

The Tatiana Pet Memorial Fund, The NHFP's affiliate program, has been established with the same spirit of compassion in mind. Its specific goal is to offer information on burial-related services for pets to pet owners who wish to provide their beloved animals with essential last rites as a final gesture of farewell, whether these might be cremation or interment. For those who love their animals dearly, these services also represent a last attempt at deepening the human-animal bond that is such a vital part of our lives.

The current objective of The Nikki Hospice Foundation for Pets is to act as a clearing-house for pet owners across the nation who are seeking veterinarians in their immediate area willing to offer hospice services to their clients' pets. The Tatiana Pet Memorial Fund, by the same token, has been set up specifically to provide pet owners with information regarding pet burial services and pet cemeteries. Hopefully, once incorporated and firmly established, The NHFP will be seeking donations in order to provide funds to needy pet owners who would like to avail themselves of hospice care for their pets and/or are requesting burial services for their animals, but do not have the monetary means to do so. This will eventually become our secondary objective. Those who wish to donate funds will be asked to contact The NHFP directly at its present corporate office. Currently, The Nikki Hospice Foundation for Pets is in the process of filing for 501(c)(3) non-profit status with both state and federal governments. Although this status is not yet official, donations made now will already be considered tax-deductible on a retroactive basis.

To all those who visit this website, we ask that you take the time to read these pages thoroughly (or print them, if you wish) in order to learn more about our work. Hopefully, you will not only gain insight into an alternative way of dealing with a pet's impending death, but will also come to appreciate the benefits we will be seeking to offer those in need. Veterinarians and animal health care professionals wishing to be included in our nation-wide database, along with organizations offering pet burial services who also wish to be enrolled in our lists, please write, telephone or send faxes/e-mail to our present corporate office. Pet owners seeking these services are also invited to contact us through any of these means. There are no charges whatsoever and no membership fees for being listed in our databases or for accessing them. The services we are providing are entirely free for all concerned.

Because this website is under new construction, any ideas, leads, comments or suggestions that you may have for this page will be most appreciated. Please e-mail them to us. Hopefully, as the organization grows and gains acceptance, more and more headings may be added to our menu. At present, we are indebted to the administration and students of the California State University Maritime Academy, who not only created the graphics for this webpage, but also graciously consented to maintaining the website on their server.
