About Dr. B.C. Kingsbury

An avid golfer, Dr. B.C. Kingsbury (1917-2003) was one of the founding members of the Green Valley Country Club.  During his tenure as Chair of the California Maritime Academy Foundation Board — a post he filled from 1999-2002 — he started the first fundraising golf tournament for the campus.  In honor of B.C.’s commitment to Cal Maritime, proceeds from our annual golf tournament benefit the Dr. B.C. Kingsbury Memorial Scholarship.

Born in San Francisco and raised in St. Francis Woods, B.C. was a strong proponent of higher education and a member of The California Maritime Academy Foundation from 1997 to 2002.

B.C. was a prominent area oral surgeon, with practices in both Napa and Solano Counties.  He went to Stanford for his undergraduate work and then to the University of the Pacific (which at that time was called the College of Physicians and Surgeons) for his dental degree.  He was trained in oral surgery in the Navy during World War II.  He was at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and was wounded and sent back to the U.S. to recover.

B.C. was active in civic affairs in both Napa and Solano County.  He joined the California Maritime Academy Foundation Board at the request of President Jerry Aspland in 1997, and served as Chair of the Board from 1999 until 2002.
