About Dr. B.C. Kingsbury
An
avid golfer, Dr. B.C. Kingsbury (1917-2003) was
one of the founding members of the Green Valley
Country Club. During his tenure as Chair of the
California Maritime Academy Foundation Board — a
post he filled from 1999-2002 — he started the
first fundraising golf tournament for the
campus. In honor of B.C.’s commitment to Cal
Maritime, proceeds from our annual
golf tournament benefit the Dr. B.C. Kingsbury
Memorial Scholarship.
Born in San
Francisco and raised in St. Francis Woods, B.C. was a strong proponent of higher education and a
member of The California Maritime Academy
Foundation from 1997 to 2002.
B.C.
was a prominent area oral surgeon, with
practices in both Napa and Solano Counties. He
went to Stanford for his undergraduate work and
then to the University of the Pacific (which at that time was called the College of Physicians and Surgeons) for his
dental degree. He was trained in oral surgery
in the Navy during World War II. He was at
Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and was wounded
and sent back to the U.S. to recover.
B.C.
was active in civic affairs in both Napa and
Solano County. He joined the California
Maritime Academy Foundation Board at the request
of President Jerry Aspland in 1997, and served
as Chair of the Board from 1999 until 2002.
