WEATHER FORECAST
For arrival
expect conditions not unlike we saw today. However,
visibility could drop to less than 2 nm in haze at arrival
time. For our stay in Callao Peru expect day time highs in
the low 70’s with moderate to heavy cloud cover with
comfortable evening temps in the upper 50’s. Winds are
predicted to be variable around 8 to 10 knots, with humidity
around 80%. This is Cadets Isenhour and Osborne saying stay
warm and have fun in port.
Congratulations to Evan Osborn

ˇ
Attention all Div 5 members: There will be a
meeting on Friday, 19 May, at 2100 in Bowditch
Classroom for those students not on watch. Important
information regarding Peru will be passed.
ˇ
Laundry: Each laundry soap bucket now has a
laundry scoop to be used to provide you with the amount
necessary for our type of machines. Please use them (one
scoop per load) and also please remember to move the scoop
to the new laundry soap bucket when the old one is empty.
ˇ
Washers: Whatever you do, please do not
secure power to the clothes washers or try to open the doors
once the cycle starts. This causes the engineers to have to
re-program the washer and/or fix the doors. Due to the low
availability of door parts, messing with the power or
opening the door once the cycle starts may ruin that washer
for the rest of the cruise.
ˇ
All laundries will be secured for the port
visit starting at 0600, 20 May.
ˇ
Everyone has done a great job conserving water
thus far. During this inport, approximately 2500 gallons of
fresh water will be used by the engineers to replace the
jacket water on #1 MDE. Please continue to conserve water
during the port visit.
ˇ
Interior doors throughout the ship: please do
not let them slam shut. Positive control of the door as it
closes will not only reduce the number of doors the
engineers and deck day work personnel are having to fix…but
it’s a safety issue too. A properly closed door also acts
as a fire or smoke boundary in case of an emergency.
Maintaining positive control as the door closes will also
reduce the number of fingers or other appendages caught in
doors.
ˇ
The only authorized item besides human waste
to put in the toilet is toilet paper. Paper towels do not
equal toilet paper. If you are using one of the common
heads on the main deck, please throw away your paper towels
into the trash cans. Paper towels clog up the toilets,
system check valves, pumps, and do not disintegrate in the
MSD causing all kinds of problems.
ˇ
If you do not have a PORT PASS, you need to
see the Purser at 1900 on Friday, 18 May, in the Ship’s
Office.

There will be two shuttle buses
rotating on an alternate ˝ hour schedule to and from Mira
Flores. During rush hours, the buses will probably run
continuously until they can get back to a half hour
schedule. Due to the rotation, you should be able to pick
up a bus in Mira Flores or at the ship every half hour – in
theory. Only the C/M, Asst Comdt, Ship’s Agent, or the
Captain can alter the routes or stops that the buses make.
