Captain's Log
6/3/2007
It is with extreme sadness that I write
the Captain’s Log today. During a recreational hiking and
swimming tour north of Da Nang, Cadet Ben Daviscourt was
involved in a fatal accident. The entire crew of the Golden
Bear is devastated and filled with sadness.
The family has been notified and every
effort is being made to provide support in this extremely
difficult time. While the ship was required to depart
Vietnam this morning due to the expiration of our diplomatic
clearance, we left behind our Vice President of Finance to
be our on-the-ground representative in Vietnam. He is being
assisted by the U. S Consul General and the U. S. Embassy,
our ship’s agent, and Assist America, our repatriation
insurance company. It is the family’s request that the
remains be returned home as soon as possible.
Please join with the ships crew in your
expressions of sympathy to the family.
While Vietnam proved to be a very
interesting visit for almost everyone, this event has
dampened the entire mood of the vessel.
