Spend the summer at CMA!

The Office of Housing & Residential Life is looking for qualified applicants for the positions of Summer Staff Assistants and Lead Summer Staff Assistants for the 2014 Summer session. Summer Staff Assistants and Lead Staff Assistants serve an integral role in providing customer service to summer conference guests and students as well as assisting the Office of Housing & Residential Life in preparing and improve the residence hall experience for all students returning to CMA for the 2014-2015 year.

All interested applicants are asked to throughly read the application packet(s) below and submit all required materials to the Office of Housing & Residential Life no later than March 17th, 2014 at 4:00 pm.

Completed Packets Include

  • Filled out Summer Staff Assistant or Lead Summer Staff Assistant application
  • Typed answers to Supplement Questions
  • Copy of a Resume
  • One completed reference form (reference must be given by a previous supervisor or CMA staff or faculty member)

 Qualifications (Lead Summer Staff Assistant)

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 and in good academic standing at start of employment
  • Current CMA student enrolled in classes for the Fall 2014 term
  • Working knowledge of supervision skills and able effectively motivate others
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks and assignments in a high traffic/stress situation
  • Ability to respectfully communicate with fellow workers regarding performance concerns and other issues
  • Perform duties effectively and ethically in an environment of medium autonomy and limited supervision
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications and the ability to learn new softweare as needed
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • A positive attitude regarding Cal Maritime and the Cal Maritime experience
  • Must be physically able to lift furniture, boxes and/or equipment
  • Reside in assigned on campus housing for the term of employment

Qualifications (Summer Staff Assistant)

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher at time of application & throughout term of employment
  • Current Cal Maritime student and enrolled for the Fall 2013 term
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft office products and e-mail
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Integrity, responsibility, accountability and the ability to work autonomously
  • Maintains a positive attitude of California Maritime Academy to students & guests
  • Must be physically able to lift furniture, boxes, and/or equipment
  • Living on campus is a requirement of this position

 Interview Process:

All applicants for summer staff positions must complete a 30 minute interview with the Summer Staff Hiring Committee between March 24th, 2014 and March 27th, 2013. Upon turning in a completed application applicants will receive email notification with directions on how to schedule an interview time. All interview attire is either khaki uniform or business attire.
