Disability Services for Family and Friends at Cal Maritime's Commencement Ceremonies
A portion of parking Lot A (adjacent to the Administration Building) has been designated a disability parking zone. Vehicles with handicapped placards or handicapped tags are the only ones allowed to park in disability spaces/areas. Please note, space is limited, so please come early for best availability.
If you are transporting a person with disabilities who does not currently have a placard, we recommend he/she make a request for a temporary parking decal permit from his/her physician. Disability parking placards are issued by the DMV.
Please be aware requesting and receiving a placard may take several weeks.
Accessible seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of commencement. Cal Maritime will make every effort to accommodate persons needing disability seating on commencement day, however accessible seating is limited; advanced planning and early arrival are strongly encouraged. Seats cannot be held by other family members or by using pieces of clothing, etc. We cannot ensure disability seating will be contiguous with other family seating. We do try to provide a seat adjacent to a family member or an attendant to accompany those needing accessible seating. Overflow accessible seating is provided in Rizza Auditorium adjacent to the ceremony tent which is clearly marked with the international symbol of accessibility. Commencement will be streamed live in Rizza Auditorium.
Questions on accessibility may be directed to Siobhan in the Office of Disability Services at firstname.lastname@example.org or 707-654-1561.
Only service animals are allowed on campus. In keeping with ADA regulations, guests with disabilities may use a dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the guest. The work or tasks performed by the service animal must be directly related to the guest's disability.
Animals that provide emotional support or companionship to a guest will not be permitted on campus.
