The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (Provost) is the chief academic officer and is responsible for promoting a rich intellectual and professional life, fostering student success, creating an active learning environment both in the classroom and beyond, and enhancing teaching, academic research, scholarship and service, as well as the diversity of the institution. This visionary individual coordinates and sustains collaborative leadership in accomplishing the mission of Cal Maritime and the California State University System. The Provost reports to the President and is a member of the President's Cabinet. Designated as the senior Vice President of the Cabinet, the Provost represents the campus in the President's absence.
The Provost is charged with promoting a collegial atmosphere and articulating the needs and aspirations of all disciplines to the President and the Cal Maritime community. The role requires an individual to perform increasingly cross-functional and institution-wide duties to accomplish the strategic goals of the campus. The Provost plays a key role in articulating Cal Maritime's message to all constituencies and in advancing the institution.
