Crime Statistics

By October 1 of each year, institutions must publish and distribute their Annual Campus Security Report to current and prospective students and employees.  Institutions are also allowed to provide notice of the report, a URL if available, and how to obtain a paper copy if desired.

This report is required to provide:

• Crime statistics for the prior three years
• Policy statements regarding various safety and security measures
• Campus crime prevention program descriptions
• Procedures to be followed in the investigation and prosecution of alleged sex offenses

Common terms:

On-campus property refers to any building or property owned or controlled by an institution within the same reasonably contiguous geographic area, and used by the institution in direct support of, or in a manner related to, the institution's educational purposes, including residence halls.

Public property includes thoroughfares, streets, sidewalks, and parking facilities, that is within the campus, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

Non-campus property is any building or property owned or controlled by a cadet organization that is officially recognized by the institution; or any building or property owned or controlled by an institution that is used in direct support of, or in relation to, the institution's educational purposes, is frequently used by cadets, and is not within the same reasonably contiguous geographic area of the institution.

Residence halls for cadets on campus is a subset of the on-campus category.
