(VALLEJO, California – February 4, 2015) – Girl Rising, the film by Academy Award-nominated director Richard E. Robbins, will be screened February 7 at 1 p.m. in Rizza Auditorium on the Vallejo campus of Cal Maritime. The free event is cosponsored by Cal Maritime and the American Association of University Women (AAUW). 
 
The film shares its name with the organization that sponsored it. Girl Rising is a global campaign for girls' education. The organization seeks to "unite girls, women, boys and men who believe that every girl has the right to go to school and the right to reach her full potential.
 
The film depicts the "strength of the human spirit and the power of education to change the world" through its global journal. The story centers on nine girls living in the developing world.
 
Founded in 1881, AAUW promotes equity and education for women and girls.
