Art of the African Diaspora, in partnership with Richmond Art Center, supports artists of African descent in the Bay Area through representation, professional development, and building a creative community.

In 2022 Richmond Art Center will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Bay Area Black Artists Exhibition! Over 100 artists of African descent will showcase their work at Richmond Art Center, as well as in open studios and satellite exhibitions at different venues across the Bay Area.

5K WALK/RUN:CAL MARITIME’S RACE TO END RACISM

Join us for a walk/run across the bridge. This 5K race cannot end racism but naming the need to create change and working together as a campus we can make a difference. So join us in this 5k by standing up against racism and get a “End Racism” t-shirt for participating while also learning about a national & local non-profit, Girl Trek!

Girl Trek is a national health movement in the footsteps of a civil rights legacy that activates thousands of Black women to be change makers in their lives and communities — through walking. Scan the QR code for more information.

CALIFORNIA CREOLE DOCUMENTARY+ DISCUSSION WITH ANDRE THIERRY

Have you ever searched for the perfect pair of shoes? Have you ever searched for shoes that show your unique sense of style, or, shoes that fantastically match your outfit? Brand New Shoes is a show that expresses the search for the perfect shoes folded into a quest to understand one's true identity. In the production Brand New Shoes, Tia Madison finds herself exploring the influence that many great historic and contemporary African American women have had on her life, and struggles to identify her own purpose and legacy amongst this great pantheon of women. Through poetry, song, and dance, Madison seamlessly flows between characters to explore the unapologetic sass of author Maya Angelou, the courage of Rosa Parks, the wisdom and motivation of Oprah Winfrey, and womenwho remind us that we must and find our true purpose in life.

Reception @ 6:30pm with appetizers & drinks.

Alibi Bookshop invites Cal Maritime students, staff and faculty to join them for their February Book Club on Thursday, Feb. 24th at 7 pm to discuss Go Tell It on the Mountain by James Baldwin.

This haunting coming-of-age story, based in part on James Baldwin’s childhood in Harlem, is an American classic. Originally published in 1953, Go Tell It on the Mountain was Baldwin’s first major work. With a potent combination of lyrical compassion and resonant rage, he portrays a fourteen-year-old boy questioning the terms of his identity.
