Cal Maritime Career Services offers a variety of presentations and workshops via both in-person and virtual formats. If you have a request for a presentation or workshop that isn’t listed, please leave a detailed description, and we will do our best to accommodate.

Each request is considered on a first come, first serve basis and staffed by Career Services based on availability. To increase the likelihood that Career Services will be able to meet your request, you are encouraged to make the request at least 3 weeks prior to the requested date.

Learn how to create and design your resume for your job or internship search. This covers content, formatting, and resume types. This can be delivered as a hands-on workshop or in presentation form.

Learn how to write a clean and effective cover letter or personal statement that isn’t simply a rephrasing of your resume. This can be delivered as a hands-on workshop in a computer lab or in presentation form.

Learn how to create a professional social media presence that will benefit you at any step of your career. Depending on need and interest, this presentation or workshop can focus on starting a profile from scratch or utilizing LinkedIn to network and understanding the job-search function.

Ever wondered how to leverage your various life experiences on a resume, cover letter, or interview? In this workshop, we will work through how to articulate experiences for your career. Topics include: Corps of Cadets, Clubs, Volunteer Work, On-Campus Employment, Athletics, Projects, and more

Are you looking for a job or internship? At Cal Maritime, this can relate to almost of the student body at any one time. Learn how to ID what you are looking for from both a company and job perspective, use Purple Briefcase/KKC and other job boards, and networking tips to find the more obscure positions.

How do you send a follow up email to build a professional connection? What about a message introducing yourself? Curious what topics to discuss at in person events? This workshop will help build skills and confidence to tackle these questions and help you build your professional network. Whether it is for career exploration or searching for a job or internship, networking will become a valuable resource in your career decision making process. Learn how to connect with alums and/or other industry professionals.

What should you be doing right now in your career development process? What would it look like to map out the next steps or a long-term vision? This presentation or workshop can be tailored to address narrow or broad questions of the career exploration and planning process and how to set you and your group up for success. Let us know what you are curious about and we can go from there.

What questions to expect? What questions to ask? What should you wear? These and more are typical questions asked when preparing for an interview. Learn what to expect, how to prepare, and how to follow up post interview so you put your best foot forward.

Learn how to research salaries for both roles and industries, as well as how to weigh offers and negotiate salary if possible. This workshop will explore personal and professional values and preferences that factor into weighing offers.

Interested in having an industry professional present to your class or group? This presentation will draw on Career Services alumni and industry network to discuss a career with a particular company or in a particular profession. If you are interested in a panel discussion, Career Services can work to accommodate. Because this presentation draws on outside help, please request 4-6 weeks in advance.
