Interim Commandant Palin Berkana-Wycoff serves as the Company Commandant for Deck Company. He is also a member of the International Business and Logistics faculty.
Before coming to CMA, he spent a decade as an organization development consultant, executive coach, and experiential trainer. He specialized in client projects involving strategy-driven group and individual capacity development, particularly with respect to leadership development and executive leader transitions. In addition to his years consulting, Commandant Berkana-Wycoff has more than thirty years of experience in organizational leadership, including a decade in commercial food production and international supply chain management in the American, European and Australian wine industries as a winemaker and production director. Concurrent with his role at CMA, Commandant Berkana-Wycoff is a member of the core faculty for the Master of Arts in Organization Development program at Sonoma State University. He teaches a series of 2nd-year courses on Human Systems Redesign, which focuses on culture and its social construction. Commandant Berkana-Wycoff holds an MA in Psychology from Sonoma State University and a BA in Management from SUNY, Empire State College. He served six years as a U.S. Army combat engineer squad leader and, in 1987, was named the Non-commissioned Officer of the Year for the Sixth U.S. Army.
Deputy Commandant Roger Scranton serves as the Student Conduct Facilitator. He comes to CMA after spending 30 years in student affairs administration. He has worked in campus recreation at California State University Fresno and Wenatchee Valley College in Washington. He has worked in Residence Life Programs at Sonoma State University, the University of Southern Maine, University of Central Missouri and California State University, Fullerton. He was the Student Activity Coordinator at the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic and served as the Assistant Dean of Students at the Southern California University of Health Science. While the Assistant Dean, he was responsible for Student Conduct, Disabled Student Services, International Student Services and Student Government. Most recently Commandant Scranton worked across town at Touro University in Administration and Facilities Management. After moving to Vallejo five years ago Commandant Scranton was a class member of Year 2 Leadership Vallejo. He has been on the Board of Directors for Leadership Vallejo for the last Five years serving as the Curriculum Chair and Immediate past Chair. He served as Leadership Vallejo’s Chair for the 2012-13 academic year. Commandant Scranton holds an MS degree in College Student Personnel Administration from the University of Central Missouri and a BS degree in Recreation Administration from California State University, Fresno.
Assistant Commandant Michael Walker serves as the Watch Standing Coordinator for the Office of the Commandant. His responsibilities include all issues related to watch, and assisting the facilitation of the random drug testing for the Corps of Cadets. He also serves as Assistant Commandant on the Annual Training Cruise.A veteran of the U.S. Navy Submarine Service and a graduate of the California Maritime Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Commandant Walker has 35 years of combined experience in organizational leadership, production and manufacturing supervision, and teaching middle and high school. Commandant Walker distinguished himself while attending CMA by receiving honorary membership into the Sigma Beta Delta Business Society and being the recipient of the William R. Hearst Award for outstanding achievement. He graduated with highest honors.
