CSU Maritime Academy is one of twelve universities from around the country chosen to compete in the 2020 US Department of Energy (DOE) Collegiate Wind Competition. The Collegiate Wind Competition is facilitated and funded by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and hosted biennially at the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) WINDPOWER Conference. The Competition challenges the undergraduate teams of students to:
Design and build a model wind turbine and test it against a set of rigourous performance criteria in a wind tunnel
Develop a wind project plan based on wind energy market and siting considerations
The Cal Maritime Wind Team is comprised of students from the several programs - Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Engineering Technology, International Business and Logistics, and Global Studies and Maritime Affairs. The team will present their turbine and project plan to industry professionals at the 2018 AWEA WINDPOWER conference in Denver, CO on June 1-4, 2020.
