HR Policy - 211.19 Faculty Hiring and Selection
It is the policy of the California Maritime Academy to recruit and select the most qualified individuals to meet academic program needs. This policy includes a commitment not to discriminate against any person seeking employment on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, physical or mental disability, medical condition, ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, citizenship, or status as a covered veteran.
The California Maritime Academy is committed to recruiting highly qualified diverse faculty members reflective of the rich cultural and ethnic diversity of our community. To accomplish this goal, the Academy shall:
- Conduct recruitment efforts to ensure that qualifiefd applicants from diverse sources are informed of vacancies and encouraged to apply.
- Open all positions on a competitive basis to any qualified applicant.
- Conduct selection activities, i.e., interviews, reference checks, for the purpose of determing an applicant's qualifications for appointment or promotion.
- Make offers of employment to new employees contingent upon proof of the appointee's identity and work authorization, consistent with the provisions of the Immigration Reform and Control Act.
Procedures for recruitment and selection of part-time and full-time faculty lecturer and tenure track positions are available in the Academic Affairs and Human Resources Offices. Procedures for the recruitment and selection of part-time and full-time staff are also available in the Human Resources office.
