Training and Professional Development

Part of the University's strategic plan is to provide professional development and enrichment opportunties for all employees.  Cal Maritime's goal is to broaden employees' skills, knowledge, and abilities which will contibute directly to the well-being and success of both the individual and the University.  

Employee Skill Development

The following workshops will be held on campus throughout June and July.  These sessions are being provided for employees seeking to develop and/or enhance professional skills and knowledge that promote individual effectiveness and group productivity.  Everyone on campus is encouraged to attend!

  • SkillChoice™ IT collection contains award-winning courseware with breadth and depth across six critical technology subject areas, continually developed to keep up with the constantly changing requirements for various professional certifications.
     
  • SkillChoice™ Desktop provides learners with comprehensive courses related to Microsoft Office (Mac and PC), Microsoft Windows, Apple OS X, e-mail, internet skills and browsers (including Internet Explorer and Apple Safari), computing fundamentals, and various Adobe products.
     
  • SkillChoice™ Business library helps employees rapidly develop skills across a wide range of "soft skill" subjects. Systemwide Professional Development

Whether in the classroom or online, Systemwide Professional Development (SPD) provides options for CSU employees to expand their job-related learning. 
 
Pre-recorded or live, interactive web meetings; virtual classes, on-demand presentations and courses; and group collaboration. 
 
​Federal, State and CSU policies drive our organization to instill safe regulatory practices in the workplace. 
 
Systemwide Leadership Development is dedicated to preparing university professionals to lead organizational change and to meet today and tomorrow's higher education, leadership needs. 
 
SPD advances the use of internal and external human resources content by developing toolkits that provide models, ideas, e-learning, industry articles, books, and other resources in the following areas:
  • Change Management
  • Performance Management
  • Recruitment
  • Principles of Supervision
  • Workforce Planning 
SPD believes learning is an ongoing, life-long process which can enhance the personal and professional development of the CSU employee. Through a myriad of self-paced e-learning courses, books, videos and on the job trainings, employees are able to grow and advance in the workplace.
 
SPD strengthens the ongoing development of learners by providing Instructor-led training, or ILT. SPD is providing in person, face to face classroom based training in a variety of areas based on campus training needs.
