Air Quality on Campus


November 19, 2018, 4:45 p.m.

Campus will reopen Tuesday and Wednesday, November 20-21 for scheduled staff/faculty work days.

 

November 18, 2018, 8:00 p.m.

Based on air quality forecasts, the Cal Maritime campus will remain closed on Monday, November 19. 
 
Essential services will follow prearranged schedules, including campus dining, residence halls, watchstanding, police, facilities, and other essential services. 
 
Campus will reopen Tuesday and Wednesday for scheduled staff/faculty work days.
 
Faculty and staff continue to be welcome on campus if the air quality is better on campus than at home. 
 

November 15, 2018, 7:00 a.m.

 
All classes and business will continue until 5:00 p.m. today, Thursday, November 15.
 
Please contact your professor for information about classes which were scheduled to be held outdoors.
 
Based upon forecasts for deteriorating air quality as a result of fires in the region, all classes and campus activities are canceled as of 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 15. The campus will remain closed through Friday, November 16.  Campus dining services, residence halls and essential services will remain open through Friday for those students with airline tickets or riding home on Saturday. Essential services will follow prearranged schedules, including shipboard watchstanding, dining services, police, facilities, IT, and the Student Health Center.
 
Faculty, staff, and students are welcome on campus Friday if the air quality is better on campus than at home. We plan to re-open the campus on Monday for scheduled staff/faculty work days, pending an improved AQI forecast. 
 
Masks will continue to be available in the Police Department lobby (access with your port pass), library, CDO Office in the Marine Programs Building, with the RHOs on Duty, and on the ship's quarterdeck.
 
For emergencies, call 911. For non-emergency medical issues, visit the Student Health Center or call 707-654-1170.

Classes will be held and University business will operate as scheduled on Wednesday, November 14.
 
While forecasts currently call for improving air conditions, everyone – especially individuals with heightened sensitivity – should continue to exercise caution. 
 
Please limit your outdoor activities. The Student Health Center remains ready to assist students experiencing respiratory issues. 
 
Masks will continue to be available in the Police Department lobby (access with your port pass), library, CDO Office in the Marine Programs Building, with the RHOs on Duty, and on the ship's quarterdeck.
 
Questions about specific classes may be directed to professors.
 
Cal Maritime administration continues to monitor air quality forecasts from several sources, including Bay Area Air Quality Management District
 
If circumstances change, further information will be provided by email, social media channels, and the Cal Maritime website.
 
Many of our friends, neighbors, and relatives have been impacted by the fires in neighboring counties.

Due to ongoing poor air quality, we ask that you continue to limit your outdoor activities and stay indoors. As a reminder, the RHO on Duty have masks available.  Also masks are available in the library, Police Department Lobby (access with your port pass), CDO Office in the Marine Programs Trailer, and on the ship quarterdeck. The campus shuttle is available for brunch and dinner service, 10am-2pm and 4pm-7pm, accordingly.  
 
We continue to monitor air conditions and will provide updates as necessary.

Due to air quality conditions, the campus shuttle is available tonight through Monday for dinner and brunch service.
 
Schedule:
 
Saturday, November 10, dinner service:  5pm-7pm
Sunday and Monday, November 11-12, brunch service:  10am-2pm; and  dinner service: 4pm-7pm 
 
The shuttle will follow its regular route.

The City of Vallejo is experiencing unhealthy air quality conditions due to smoke from the fires in Butte County. We ask that you limit your outdoor activities and stay indoors.  All campus outdoor activities are canceled.  
 
Masks are available in the library, Police Department Lobby (access with your port pass), CDO Office in the Marine Programs Trailer, and on the ship quarterdeck.
 
The RHO on Duty also has masks available.
 
Further updates will be provided as necessary.
