MARITIME ADMINISTRATOR TO SPEAK AT CAL MARITIME’S LARGEST COMMENCEMENT EVER

(VALLEJO, Calif. – April 21, 2014) – Acting Maritime Administrator Paul “Chip” Jaenichen will address the largest graduating class in Cal Maritime’s history at commencement this Saturday.

The class includes 212 undergraduates and 19 students receiving their master’s degrees. The Commencement Ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26 on the campus of Cal Maritime. The 2014 Cal Maritime Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award will be given during the ceremony.

The Military Commissioning Ceremony for students who entered as ensigns into the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, or the Merchant Marine Reserve will be held at 9:00 a.m. Charles Ray, Vice Admiral and Commander, Coast Guard Pacific Area and Coast Guard Defense Forces West, will administer the licensure oath.

Acting Maritime Administrator Jaenichen has been with the U.S. Department of Transportation, Maritime Administration since July 2012 when he was appointed Deputy Maritime Administrator by President Obama. Jaenichen was a career naval officer, retiring after serving 30 years as nuclear trained Submarine Officer in the U.S. Navy. His final assignment was as Deputy Chief of Legislative Affairs for the Department of the Navy from October 2010 to April 2012.
