(VALLEJO, Calif. – July 17, 2014) – Cal Maritime celebrated the continued growth of campus on July 28 as demolition began at the site of the former Vallejo Inn. Representatives from campus and the community gathered for a ceremony to mark the beginning of the project.
The addition of the property to the campus footprint addressed a critical need for space, and the University is currently studying options for potential future use. In the meantime, the property will provide needed parking space once the demolition is complete.
"Cal Maritime is pleased to begin this demolition work which will remove a structure which has outlived its usefulness," said Vice President for Administration and Finance Kurt Lohide. "We believe this work will improve the appearance and livability of not just the campus, but our entire southern Vallejo neighborhood."
Other projects continue on campus this summer. A Physical Education and Water Survival Training Center, scheduled to open late this year, is under construction adjacent to the Vallejo Inn Property. The entrance to campus is under renovation, including a new building to house the Campus Police Department.
