California Maritime Academy Foundation
OVERVIEW
The California Maritime Academy Foundation was founded in 1972 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation to provide financial support to advance the university's mission, support undergraduate and graduate students, and faculty of Cal Maritime. The California Maritime Academy Foundation was created in order to accept the donation of the famous sailing yacht BARUNA. With its early beginnings of an operating budget of $100,000, the Foundation has grown to a $30 million organization, and continues to support Cal Maritime through scholarships, capital purchases and technology upgrades. The Foundation also supports the activities and operations of the Cal Maritime Alumni Association, including annual gatherings, monthly meet-ups, newsletter and reunion events.
MISSION
The California Maritime Academy Foundation will encourage and facilitate the growth of contributions and charitable gifts to advance California State University Maritime Academy and its promise to provide each student with an exceptional university education that combines intellectual learning, applied technology, leadership development, and global awareness, as articulated in the Academy’s strategic plan.
VISION
The California Maritime Academy Foundation will strive to be a leading philanthropic entity that inspires Cal Maritime’s students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the maritime community to generate charitable gifts that fulfill the mission, vision, beliefs and values of Cal Maritime.
MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD CHAIR
CMAF BOARD CHAIR ON PROPOSED INTEGRATION WITH CAL POLY
CMAF Board Chair John Betz, '76 and '15, says, "This is not the first major change that I have seen at Cal Maritime. I was a cadet in 1974 when we shifted from a 3-year curriculum to a 4-year curriculum. Shortly after that we sought accreditation. Then in July 1995 we became the 22nd campus in the CSU system and came out stronger after all those past changes. I believe that, if approved, this path forward will again create a stronger Cal Maritime."
