Undergraduate Research at Cal Maritime!

Undergraduate research is vital to Cal Maritime’s mission and is a recognized high-impact activity that empowers students and contributes to the development of new knowledge. This page serves as a resource and springboard for undergraduate students at all levels of their research journey. Matthew Rothschild (BS Oceanography) worked with with Dr. Alex Parker (Oceanography) on a harmful algal bloom (HAB) in San Francisco Bay.

Roxanne Mina (BS Oceanography) and Riley Tillman (BS Mechanical Engineering) are working with Dr. Julie Simons (Mathematics) on a project to mathematically model the motion of flagella in viscous fluids, like oil.

Ella Jones (BS Oceanography) is working with Dr. Tomas Oppenheim (ME) to launch an ocean observing moored buoy in the San Francisco Bay.

Morgan Illman (BS Oceanography) is working with oceanographic research technician Jessica Bruno from San Francisco State University, to maintain an SF Bay ocean observing shore station as part of the Central and Northern California Ocean Observing System (CeNCOOS) located on the Cal Maritime campus.
