Here is a message from Interim President Michael J. Dumont.

Please Consider Donating to the Cal Maritime Community Fund

On the evening of January 21, 2025, two Cal Maritime cadets became innocent victims of a tragic shooting incident a few miles from campus. This devastating event has left our cadets injured, their families traumatized, and our community shaken.  Both cadets are recovering from their injuries, however one remains hospitalized.  I have met with them and their families, and while they are recovering, the road ahead for them will require support and assistance.

Many across the Cal Maritime community have asked how they can help.  In response, the Cal Maritime Academy Foundation has established the Cal Maritime Community Fund. Funds we collect will help the families of our two cadets with urgent needs, including travel, lodging, meals, and other unforeseen expenses caused by this heartbreaking incident.  To those who have contacted us to ask how they may help, thank you.

 Your Support Truly Matters

Cal Maritime and maritime industry partners are rallying together.   Your contribution will make a tangible difference in supporting these families through this difficult time.

We deeply appreciate your kindness and generosity.  Together, we can help these cadets and their families as they recover from this tragic incident.  Any unused funds will be held in the Foundation’s emergency fund to help assist other members of the Cal Maritime community with any similar catastrophe in the future.  At Cal Maritime, we pride ourselves on looking out for one another and helping those in need.  Thank you to all who have reached out to offer support and assistance.  We remain grateful and appreciative as do the cadets and families victimized in this violent attack.

The Cal Maritime Academy Foundation is a charitable organization as defined by Section 501(c)(3) of the federal tax code and all charitable gifts are tax deductible. Should you have any questions about donating, please contact the University Advancement Office at 707-654-1789.

Thank you for your kind and generous support, and I know you join all of us at Cal Maritime in wishing both cadets a speedy and full recovery.

 Respectfully,

Mike
