Ahoy!
This year, we have a special opportunity to carry seven Oceanography students and an instructor to Hawaii with us. In the past, we have brought students from other majors on Sea Term, but we have not been able to accomodate this in some time. We are excited to return to our roots in this sense as we believe that inviting other majors to participate in Summer Sea Term can be beneficial for our licensed track cadets, as well as students from other majors because it allows everyone to be exposed to new ideas and interests. TSGB is a training tool after all!
While aboard, our Oceanographers are busy conducting research. We slow down the ship for a couple hours each day to allow the team to gather samples for testing.
After launching our #10 boat as seen below, our Oceanographers collected samples of microplastics, zoo and phytoplankton.
Once this was completed, they launched the CTD off of the aft davit to collect data on the salinity, temperature, and depth of the water.
Fair winds and following seas...
