Ahoy!

We have settled back into a routine for this 11 day stretch until we reach Guam. We've almost made it and will be arriving on Friday! We spent the last week catching up on monthly safety meetings as well as monthly sanitary inspections conducted by Captain Bannister. Not the most fun thing in the world but necessary for the health of the ship and it's sailors~

It's a new week on TS Golden Bear and that means another round of Fire & Abandon Ship drills. We incorporate different tasks into each drill - once we have a positive muster following Abandon Ship drills, we will practice lowering lifeboats, donning immersion suits, or setting off pyrotechnics to help familiarize Cadets with these procedures. Regarding fire drills, once completed and the "fire" is out, we will practice spraying the fire hoses with the DC and QRT (Damage Control and Quick Response) teams (pictured below).

Chief Mate Doug Nagy and the fire team practicing with the hoses. They were good sports - it was very hot and humid and the "fire" was staged outside at our incinerator.

Pyro training

At the end of the day, our galley crew surprised everyone with a BBQ steak dinner which we then followed with a firework show - we had some old emergency flares and Pyrotechnics to burn through so we thought we might as well have some fun with it!
