Steve Kreta, a Cal Maritime graduate, sailed as an engineering officer with MEBA before returning to Cal Maritime to teach. In his more than 35 years at Cal Maritime, he has been a member of the Engineering faculty, and then served as Academic Dean, Associate Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Vice-President for Student Affairs, before retiring from administrative positions to return to the ET department to teach.

Steve has taught many courses in the ET and ME program but is now focused on Steam Plant Simulation and Operations. His research agenda has included subjects such as teaching with simulation, leadership development, and university organization.

He holds the following professional licenses:  

  • USCG Unlimited Chief Engineer, Steam and Motor
  • California Professional Engineer – Mechanical
  • Certified Plant Engineer
