Ahoy!

We are halfway through another week aboard TSGB and eagerly awaiting our arrival in Kauai! Cadets and crew alike have gotten into busy routines at sea which helps the time pass. The weather is absolutely beautiful now and seas are calm.

Over the last few days, we had our first BBQ and karaoke night, completed a Man Overboard drill, Oceanographers showcased some of their findings from the journey so far (everything from microplastics to a small crab who is currently living in the Marine Biology lab), and of course our usual time changes, drills, daywork, classroom and watch rotations have continued. The food has been excellent (shout out to Chartwells) and spirits seem to be high right now. We have some awesome ports to look forward to coming up and people are energized.

BBQ

Our first BBQ of the season was a success!

First fish!

And we caught our first fish (actually two of them) of Sea Term.

Karaoke

Karaoke was a huge hit. The patio deck was filled with people after the sun went down.

Collecting Samples

Oceanographers have been staying busy taking out the #10 boat and collecting samples.

Man Overboard

We did our first Man Overboard drill of Sea Term! Once Oscar the dummy is thrown overboard, everyone in the vicinity must continuously point in his direction to alert crew of his whereabouts.

FRB

For this exercise we launch the FRB (Fast Rescue Boat) to go and retrieve Oscar.

Man Overboard

Oscar was quickly found and brought back to the ship.

Tech Library

The Tech Library is buzzing with activity these days.

Incinerator

Hats off to our incinerator teams for processing all of our burnable garbage! This helps maintain sanitary and habitability requirements.

IBEST

Celestial

Visibility has increased and cadets have been able to get outside and work on their Celestial Navigation. The prime time to complete this work is the first half of Sea Term while we have good weather and head into the tropics.
