Ahoy!
Day two of Summer Sea Term and our schedule is in full swing. Before we take off, we have a lot of things to accomplish in just four short days! We will be practicing our fire, abandon ship, and security drills daily until we leave. Everyone must undergo vessel familiarization and indoctrination as well as completing mandatory trainings. On Thursday we will complete our USCG Certificate of Inspection (COI). This conveys that vessel is seaworthy and her crew and cadets are able to safely embark on our voyage.
Before you fight a fire, you must have proper PPE!
Chief Mate Doug Nagy and 1st Engineer Neil McGhee lead the fire hose training.
Once the Fire Drill is complete, we then roll into our Abandon Ship drill. Everyone must retrieve their life jacket and immersion suit and report to their muster station ASAP!
It's a great day for drills!
Now for the fun part - once we have a positive muster, everyone must practice putting on their immersion suits. This can be a bit challenging but the US Coast Guard observes this during the COI process, so we must ensure that the suits fit and are put on correctly.
Fair winds and following seas...
