Ahoy!
The big day has has arrived - TS Golden Bear departed Vallejo this morning. The weather was perfect, our final checks with the US Coast Guard went great, and we are now outbound for our first port: San Diego.
Cadets looked sharp as they manned the rails for departure.
Captain Bannister would like to give a shout out!
"I would like to take a moment to recognize and extend my sincere appreciation to several members of our staff and faculty whose efforts were instrumental in the successful and timely departure of the Golden Bear.
Special thanks to our Waterfront Manager, Bob Brown, and his team—Paulo Blas and Tim Rodgers—as well as faculty member Bradley Angle. Bob operated Cal Maritime’s training tug, Black Bear, to assist Golden Bear in getting off the dock and Bradley utilized one of our aluminum boats to support personnel transfers. Their coordination enabled the efficient movement of crew, cadets, USCG members, and the tech representative in preparation for lifeboat operations.
This was a true team effort, and I want to commend Bob, Paulo, Tim, and Bradley for their professionalism, dedication, and willingness to go above and beyond. Their contributions played a key role in ensuring a smooth and successful launch of the Golden Bear. Bravo Zulu Team! Job well done!"
Bosun Anders Bland and Cadet Riley Doolittle prepare the Pilot Ladder for a personnel transfer.
Approaching the Golden Gate Bridge on our way out of the Bay is always surreal and exciting!
Hearing (and feeling) the ship's horn as we crossed under the bridge will surely be an unforgettable memory for many aboard.
It's a family affair! Our Pilot, Captain Eric Robinson shared a special moment with his son, 3/C Cadet Cole Robinson as Cole embarks on his first Summer Sea Term. Thank you for your support Captain Robinson and all of our SF Bar Pilots!
Fair winds and following seas...
