Training Ship Golden Bear serves as the primary training platform on which cadets apply technological skills introduced in the classroom and leadership skills acquired from their work assignments and responsibilities within the Corps of Cadets. Each summer, cadets in their first and third years depart with licensed faculty instructors and watch officers for two months during the Summer Sea Term. During these periods at sea, our four compass points, intellectual learning, applied technology, global awareness and leadership development are on full display as the cadets hone their professional mariner skills. 

 

2024 Summer Sea Term Update:

Good day All,

Despite all our best efforts, there will be a delay to the start of Summer Sea Term 2024.  

Many of you will recall we endured a three-month delay in starting our regulatory five-year dry docking in Oregon due to scheduling issues that were well beyond our control. Since the ship returned from drydock, we have been engaged in some unplanned and excess growth work on the ship. This additional work includes the replacement of 700 square feet of steel on the 03 level of the aft house. Because of these cascading delays, we will need to delay our scheduled departure as noted in the timeline below.

Tentative Revised Summer Sea Term dates: 

03 JUNE COMMENCE CRUISE

06 AUG CRUISE ENDS

A new detailed itinerary will be forthcoming shortly.  We know this is not what was planned, but we must remain flexible when there are so many other agencies involved in our sailing schedule and when conditions change. Please be reminded that we must be prepared for additional delays and even an itinerary change in the future.  We will keep you apprised via this summer sea term webpage.
