Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Any off-campus petition submitted via StarRez by the petition deadline are currently under review. If you applied for financial hardship or a medical accommodation and have not received an official notification regarding your petition status before your room selection time slot opens, you will need to participate in room selection.

Once petition decision letters are sent, any cadet not approved for off-campus will need to participate in room selection. If you are not approved for off-campus status and do not participate in the StarRez (SR) room selection process, the Office of Residence Life will assign you a room assignment and a roommate.

Please follow instructions in your official off-campus approval notification email. Any room and meal plan charges will be reversed. If you would like to decline your off-campus approval offer and will need on-campus accommodations, please send an email to housing@csum.edu

For this year's 2023-2024 selection process, Lower Res Hall & Maritime North Halls will be available for selection via the StarRez Portal. Additionally, there some spaces available in McAllister Residence Hall in the StarRez system for Current Cadets. Once rooms are filled for a particular res hall, you can submit a request for a specific  residence hall via the Wait List Options" page through your StarRez application.

In the StarRez housing application, there is a "Wait List Options" page through your StarRez application. If you would like to change your tentative room, request a different residence hall, or roommate selection, please submit your request via the "Wait List Options" page. Any hall/room and roommate requests submitted via the waitlist page will be reviewed.  On the "Wait List Options' page you can submit details of your request.

Please understand that residents are selecting a "tentative" bed space when participating in room selection. Requests are dependent on availability and it is not a guarantee that our office will be able to grant your request. Our office will review all requests submitted and will communicate any updates throughout the remainder of semester and throughout summer months. We will do our best to accommodate change requests.

If there were not any tentative bed spaces available for selection, you will need to complete the "Wait List Options" page in your StarRez application. For any resident who was not able to select a bed, their names will be added to a temporary waitlist for room selection. Via the "Wait List Option" page, you will be able to input your requests for hall & roommate preferences.

Any hall/room and roommate requests submitted via the waitlist page will be reviewed. Please understand that residents are selecting a "tentative" bed space when participating in room selection. Requests are dependent on availability and it is not a guarantee that our office will be able to grant your request, but we will try our best to accommodate.

For Current Cadets - In the StarRez housing application, there's a "Single Room Buyout Requests" waitlist page for residents to opt into.  This page will become active when the room selection process begins. If you would like to be on the waitlist for a single room buyout, please submit your request via the wait list page through your StarRez application.

Please understand that a single occupant room is not a standard housing option here at Cal Maritime.  Cadets should expect to have a roommate . If opportunity allows, single room buyout requests are dependent on availability each semester. It's not a guarantee that our office will be able to grant your request or single room buyouts will be available. Our office will review all requests submitted and will communicate any updates throughout the remainder of semester and throughout summer months.

If you need to change your meal plan selection, please send email to housing@csum.edu.  You can view more information regarding the dining options and program via the webpage

All tentative room assignments will be reviewed throughout the remainder of the semester and throughout summer. Once assignments are confirmed, all room assignment emails will be sent to students by August via your @csum.edu account. The email includes details regarding your specific room assignment, your roommate information, and your check-in time for Fall 2023 Move-in Day.

For questions or more information about the room selection process please contact the Office of Residence Life at housing@csum.edu or at 707-654-1400.

If you don’t participate in the room/roommate process, our office will assign you a room and roommate. Our office will try our best to pair you with someone within your divisional company, major, and/or interests.

After room selection week concludes and if you find someone you would like to room with at a later point, use the "Wait List Option" page in your StarRez application to input your requests for hall & roommate preferences.

There may be a couple of reasons for your issue. Below are a couple of troubleshooting tips to try. Additionally, please review our "how-to" guides in the Current Cadets drop-down menu at the top of the page.

1. If you log into your StarRez application and you don't have access to the Room Selection page or the Room Search Wizard feature, please log out of your StarRez Portal and log  in again. If you log in early before your time slot opens, there will be a delay for you. It is best to log in after your designated time slot (after 8am or after 2pm).

2. Double check your Class of and GPA data . The time slot information is recorded and imported from your PeopleSoft account. The timeslot are assigned according to the data important via PeopleSoft.

3. Completed a late application a deadline. Any applications completed after the   deadline will have a delayed timeslot. You will need to send an email at housing@csum.edu to a new time slot.

Any requests for a room transfer must follow the appropriate process/expectations of Roommate Mediations. See below:

1. Attempt to address the topic/conflict with your roommate directly.

2. Request a mediation from your specific RHO and complete a Roommate Agreement with the RHO.

3. If either roommate is not adhering to the Roommate Agreement, then notify your RHO and RHO will determine best course of action (either to amend the agreement or potential escalate to Res Life Pro Staff).
