Today we were met with some nicer weather and the seas have finally smoothed out as well. There was a lot going on throughout the ship. Some cadets were busy putting the final touches on their final projects and others were busy doing their daily tasks. Even though we are a week from home there is still a lot to do.

On deck today some of the deckies were doing firefighting training. This included how to operate the firehose, the spray patterns, and how to approach a fire. All of these skills are important to know in the event of an onboard fire. The faster they can get it under control the more likely it is that the ship will survive. When approaching the fire the typical approach will be to get yourself as low to the deck as possible with the hose spraying in a fog pattern. Once at the fire the attack should be with a direct spray at the base of the flames.

Fast boat

After lunch today we also had another Man Overboard drill, these drills are important and we will do them as needed to ensure that we could rescue someone in the water. Our fast boat had some issues today, but we were still able to recover the dummy that was tossed into the water. The repairs were done quickly and the boat is back up and running!

As we sail closer everyone is getting more eager to be home and some are looking forward to next cruise as well.
