The Cal Maritime Police Department provides 24 hours a day, year round, protection for the campus community. We are a fully vested police department, recognized by the California Police Officers Standards of Training. Police department personnel are the first responders to campus emergencies.
The department is empowered as a full- service state law enforcement agency pursuant to section 830.2 (b) of the California Penal Code and fully subscribes to the standards of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). Officers receive the same basic training as city and county peace officers throughout the state, plus additional training to meet the unique needs of a campus environment.
The department handles all patrol, investigation, crime prevention education, emergency preparedness, and related law enforcement duties for the campus community and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In 2016, the California Maritime Police Department (CMPD) took occupancy of the New Police Building, which serves as an Emergency Operations Center.
The current staffing levels include: Chief of Police (Interim); Corporal (1); Police Officers (7); Community Service Specialists (6); Support Personnel: Special Assistant to the Chief/Records/Clery/Property & Evidence (1); Parking Coordinator (Interim); Special Consultant/ Project Manager (1). Community Service Specialists respond to service calls, assist with security patrol, educational programs, parking enforcement, and conduct vehicle and foot patrol.
The department has joined with San Jose State University Police Department for dispatch services. The Communications Center, located on the San Jose State University, is staffed by dedicated POST certified, CSU Police Dispatchers. They serve as our first point of contact for emergencies, non-emergencies, and other service requests. They coordinate communications between police officers and other support staff. Additionally, dispatchers are responsible for coordinating emergency response for both on-campus and off-campus resources, such as fire and medical services. The Communications Center is open 24 hours a day, year around.
The Cal Maritime Police Department maintains a working relationship with all local, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The Cal Maritime Police Department has established an agreement with the Vallejo Police Department for the interagency provision of emergency services to the campus.
The CSU Maritime Academy Police Department will work in concert with the diverse citizenry and campus community to protect the people and their property. We will safeguard the rights of our constituents with undying dedication. We will never waver from our Core Values and always strive to be an innovative and ethical law enforcement agency.
The unique setting of the CSU Maritime Academy is alluring and ever changing. Although achieving higher education is the goal, sometimes invasive disorder can diminish and devalue the learning environment. The Cal Maritime Police Department will strive to protect our students, faculty, staff, and neighboring community from those who would cause detriment. We will achieve our goals by developing genuine partnerships within our collegiate community.
I will motivate, inspire, reward, and empower others by my positive actions.
I will always be dedicated to doing what is right and my ethical standards will not be compromised.
I will be uncompromisingly committed to truth as the baseline measurement for my courage.
I will be firmly committed to protecting and supporting my colleagues as we work towards our goals and objectives.
