Who May Enroll

All Extended Learning courses are open to adults, at least 18 years old. No prior college education is required. Students should have good oral and written English skills to successfully participate in any of the training courses.

Registration does NOT guarantee a seat in the class. The Extended Learning Department requires a 50% deposit on all courses. Space is reserved and students are considered enrolled only when the 50% deposit has been received.

Deposits

A deposit of 50% for all courses registers and reseves your seat in the class and must be received no later than (2) two calendar weeks prior to class start date. (This does not apply to companies with direct billing). Deposits can be made with credit or debit card. We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express.

Course Fees

Course fees are noted in the schedule of classes next to each course. All course fees and balances are due in full (2) two calendar weeks prior to the first day of each class.  A 10% late registration fee will be added if not paid in full by (2) two calendar weeks prior to the beginning of class.  We cannot offer any financial assistance for Extended Learning courses.

Course fees can be paid with credit or debit card at both the Vallejo Extended Learning location and The Maritime Safety and Security Center (MSSC) in Richmond.

Transfers

Transfers to another scheduled class (or from one student to another) are accepted at no charge up to 14 days prior to the class start date. Students are encouraged to transfer to a future scheduled class of the same course. If the student cannot transfer to a scheduled class of the same course, then he/she may transfer to another class of a different course and receive either a refund or pay the difference between the two class fees (if applicable). If the student cannot attend any scheduled class, then the Cancellation/Refund Policy is in effect. Due to the nature and size of our classes and our unique student population (out-of-state, challenging work schedules, etc.), transfers requested less than 14 days before the class start date significantly impact our course delivery and will be assessed a 15% transfer fee.  Transfers received 5 days or less before the class start date will not be allowed.

Cancellations / Refunds

Extended Learning will provide a full refund if a student cancels 15 or more calendar days before the start of the class.

Cancellations received between 14 and 7 calendar days before the start of the class will be charged a fee of 25% of the class tuition. Cancellations received less than one week prior to the start of the class will receive a 50% refund of class tuition. Cancellations received one day prior to or on the start of the class will receive no refund. Students who are registered yet fail to attend, as well as those who do not complete the program, will not be eligible for refunds.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

This policy is to discourage late withdrawals and thus reduce the financial impact on our other students who are traveling from a distance to attend the class (e.g. lost hotel and travel reservation fees), our instructors and Cal Maritime when a course must consequently be cancelled at the last minute.

If Cal Maritime Extended Learning cancels a class, students will be offered:

  • A transfer to a scheduled class of the same course.
  • A transfer to another class of a different course (students will receive either a refund or pay the difference between the two class fees, if applicable).
  • A full refund.
