University and CSU System Conduct Policies
Student Conduct Code
The Student Conduct Code (Title 5, Section 41301 of the California Code of Regulations) communicates the expectations of students as members of the campus community. The Student Conduct Code may be viewed at the Title 5, Section 41301 of the California Code of Regulations website.
Cal Maritime Student Code of Conduct
The Cal Maritime Student Code of Conduct fully incorporates the CSU's Student Code of Conduct for the California State University system (Class I violations), as well as additional violations that are unique to our educational mission as a maritime academy and campus residence halls. The Cal Maritime Student Code of Conduct also proscribes a range of demerits applicable to each violation outlined in the Corps of Cadets Rules & Regulations (demerits are applicable to undergraduates who are cadets in the Corps of Cadets).
Class I violations are foundationally generated from the California Administrative Code, Title V, Section 41301 and are applicable to all State of California higher education institutions. These policies are applicable to all students.
Class II violations are Cal Maritime specific policies which are applicable to all students.
Class III Violations are additional policies associated with the Corps of Cadets. Cadets can find guidance on how to adhere to Corps standards in the Corps of Cadets Rules & Regulations.
All Class I and Class II Violations apply to the Corps of Cadets. Cadets living on-campus must adhere to Class V Violations as well.
Class IV violations constitute behavior and conduct that are prohibited aboard the Training Ship Golden Bear.
All Class I, II and III Violations also apply while on Summer Sea Term and are all subject to Captain’s Mast or Cadet’s Mast during that time.
Class V Violations
Class V violations are violations that occur in the Residence Halls. These policies are applicable to Licensees/residents who have a Housing License Agreement. Students who reside off-campus, but violate policies in the residence halls are still liable for their behavior and are subject to the conduct process.
All Class I and Class II Violations apply to Licensees/residents.

Discrimination, Harassment, Retaliation, Sexual Misconduct, Dating/Domestic Violence, and Stalking
Cases that may involve discrimination, harassment, retaliation, sexual misconduct, dating/domestic violence or stalking will first be reviewed and may be investigated by the Office of Title IX and Civil Rights. After a case has been investigated and if the allegation has been substantiated under CSU Executive Order 1096 or 1097, the case is then sent to the Office of Community Standards for a decision on disciplinary sanctions only. CSU Executive Orders 1096, 1097 and 1098 provide details as to how Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation (DHR) and Title IX cases will be resolved at the University.
